New Delhi : The people of North India including Delhi are yet to get relief from the cold. The Meteorological Department has predicted dense fog along with severe cold in the next two days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday predicted severe cold in isolated parts of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in the next two days.

According to a statement issued by the IMD, during the next 24 hours, dense to very dense fog will occur at isolated places over the capital Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan during the night and morning hours. A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan region from January 18, the statement said. Another Western Disturbance is likely to affect Northwest India from January 21.

According to the IMD, "Dense to very dense fog at isolated places over Rajasthan and East Uttar Pradesh during night/morning hours and dense to very dense fog at night/morning hours over Jammu division and Himachal Pradesh on 16/17 during the next 2 days." Fog may occur.Similar conditions are very likely to prevail over West Uttar Pradesh and North Madhya Pradesh during the next two days, the statement said.

IMD said cold day to very cold day conditions at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan during next 2 days and East Uttar Pradesh during next 3 days. This situation is likely to remain in place.

Meanwhile, fog conditions were observed in various parts of North India on Sunday as well, reducing visibility in parts of the city in the early hours of the day.

A thick layer of fog affected the visibility in Lucknow, while the cold wave prevailing in Madhya Pradesh engulfed Bhopal.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the visibility in Delhi's Palam area reduced to 1000 meters at 8:30 am on Sunday.

The IMD has also predicted isolated thunderstorms with possibility of lightning over Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh on January 16, while Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Andhra Pradesh on January 19 and 20. Light or moderate rain is likely over Tripura.
