A serious incident of firing on two merchant vessels has been reported in the Strait of Hormuz. The firing was carried out by the Iranian Navy, during which an Indian ship was targeted. Taking a stern view of the matter, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has summoned the Iranian Ambassador to lodge a formal protest. The government has conveyed a strong message of opposition regarding the attack on the Indian tanker.
MEA Summons Ambassador Dr. Mohammad Fathali
The attack on the Indian vessels reportedly took place near Oman. Following India's firm diplomatic stance, the Iranian Ambassador, Dr. Mohammad Fathali, arrived at the Ministry of External Affairs. According to sources, the MEA expressed grave concern over the attack on the Indian vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, while the ministry summoned Ambassador Fathali to register an official protest against the incident.
Vessels Carrying 2 Million Barrels of Iraqi Oil
Reports indicate that two Indian vessels carrying oil from Iraq were targeted in the Strait of Hormuz. These tankers are carrying approximately 2 million barrels of Iraqi oil. The incident has further escalated tensions in the region. This development comes at a time when the conflict between the United States and Iran is already ongoing, making the Hormuz region highly sensitive.
Internal Confusion and Lack of Coordination in Iranian Forces
The massive oil tanker was fired upon while it was passing near Hormuz. However, no reports of major damage or casualties have emerged so far. Sources suggest that a state of confusion exists within Iran due to the prevailing war-like conditions. Different branches and units of the Iranian military are reportedly not working in full coordination with each other, which is cited as a reason for such occurrences. Previously, similar incidents of accidental firing by the US on its own ships or allies have also been recorded during this conflict.
