Nepal has started talks with India for its important West Seti Hydroelectric Project. Earlier, he was in talks with China on this project, but now Nepal's PM Sher Bahadur Deuba has informed that Seti is in talks with India regarding hydroelectric project. 1250 MW of electricity can be generated under this project.

According to reports, Nepal had signed agreements with Chinese companies in 2012 and 2017 for the same project. Now Nepal's PM Deuba told that PM Narendra Modi is coming to Lumbini on 16 May. In the meantime, decisive talks will be held with him for this important project.

Work on Seti Project since 1981

According to reports, work on the Paschim Seti Hydroelectric Project has been going on since 1981. In 1987 a French company modified the project, saying it could store 380 MW without harming the environment. But in 1994 an Australian company got a license to survey the project. This company was also licensed in 1997. Under this project, 90 percent of the electricity was intended to be sold to India. However, later Chinese companies joined the project.

Why Nepal is moving towards India

According to reports, India has bluntly told Nepal that if Nepal plans to sell electricity in India's power exchange market, it will have to ensure that there will be no Chinese component in its hydroelectric projects. Now this is the reason why Nepal is moving towards India with respect to the Western Seti Hydropower Project.
