Katrina Kaif says she’s glad that she did Zero because Aanand L Rai helped her learn a lot.

Bollywood actor Katrina Kaif, who is gearing up for the release of her next with Salman Khan - Bharat, has said that working on Aanand L Rai’s Zero helped her understand emotions - both positive and negative - deeply. Zero, that also starred Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma, proved to be a box office dud and was widely panned by critics.

Speaking to DNA in an interview, Katrina said, “Life has put me on a journey that has put me on unchartered (very unexpected paths) territories emotionally. That has taught me about myself. I have learnt a lot about emotion, pain, love and betrayal. But at the same time, I have also gained an understanding about positive things like trust. I have begun to see life in a deeper way. And I have brought all of this to my work. Having that platform and then having fantastic directors like Aanand sir has helped.”

“Aanand sir was very specific. He was able to guide me with an emotional scene so beautifully. He would encourage me to reach deep within to bring the needed emotions to the fore. In Zero, for me, it was a world that Aanand sir and I discussed and discovered so deeply. When I got on set, he pushed and helped me to stay in the zone, which was required. That is what I would have hoped for. And I am happy that it happened. Such experiences and encouragement from a director have helped me evolve as an actor. I have definitely started to understand more of the craft. Eventually this is what every actor wants. We all want to constantly grow at work. And, if someone somewhere makes a note, it makes the whole process worthwhile,” she added.

With flops like Thugs of Hindostan and Zero in her recent past, the stakes are high for Katrina with Bharat. However, her films opposite Salman Khan have a history of making it to huge box office numbers. Apart from Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bharat - an official remake of Korean drama An Ode to my Father, Katrina will soon be seen in Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi alongside Akshay Kumar and Neena Gupta.
