In such a situation, the Union Health Ministry has advised the states to do RT-PCR test twice and see whether S-Gene is missing from the sample or not, because S-Gene is missing from Omicron, while S-Gene is present in Delta. .

Does the disappearance of the S-Gene mean you are Omicron infected?

Yes, Omicron is being identified only through the S-Gene present in the virus. Many scientists have claimed that Omicron does not contain the S-Gene. If a person is missing the S-Gene in their sample, then they are Omicron infected. If the S-Gene is present and the report is corona positive, then the person is infected with a variant of the corona other than Omicron.

What did the WHO say on S-Gene?

According to WHO, the reason for the disappearance of the S-Gene from Omicron is the presence of multiple mutations in it, which have not been seen in any variant so far. Missing S-Gene is an indication of Omicron's presence.
