Omicron is spreading rapidly in the country. It is more contagious than other variants of corona. It is being identified with the Genome Sequencing Test, but India is still far behind in terms of genome sequencing. Today we tell you that Omicron can also be detected by RT-PCR test. It also costs less than genome sequencing. While genome sequencing test costs up to Rs 5000, RT-PCR test costs only Rs 260.

Today in the news of need, we will tell you how Omicron will be identified by RT-PCR test.

What is Genome Sequencing?

Genome sequencing is the complete genetic biodata of any human being. If we want to understand the genetic diversity of a person, then we have to do genome sequencing test. After this we will come to know about any new disease or new variant.

Any variant is easily detected by genome sequencing, but these tests are being done in very few states of the country. Therefore it is not possible to do genome sequencing of every individual. In such a situation, the Union Health Ministry has advised the states to do RT-PCR test twice and see whether S-Gene is missing from the sample or not, because S-Gene is missing from Omicron, while S-Gene is present in Delta. .

Does the disappearance of the S-Gene mean you are Omicron infected?

Yes, Omicron is being identified only through the S-Gene present in the virus. Many scientists have claimed that Omicron does not contain the S-Gene. If a person is missing the S-Gene in their sample, then they are Omicron infected. If the S-Gene is present and the report is corona positive, then the person is infected with a variant of the corona other than Omicron.

What did the WHO say on S-Gene?

According to WHO, the reason for the disappearance of the S-Gene from Omicron is the presence of multiple mutations in it, which have not been seen in any variant so far. Missing S-Gene is an indication of Omicron's presence.

In which state Omicron infection is being checked with RT-PCR kit?

In Maharashtra, Kovid samples are being examined twice with RT-PCR kits. Some changes have also been made in the test kit, so that the presence of S-Gene can be detected.
