Delhi: The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal of Zakia Jafri, widow of Congress leader Ehsan Jafri, against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, other politicians and officials, including 63 others, in connection with the 2002 Gujarat riots. Jafri had petitioned that she wanted a probe into the "larger conspiracy" behind the riots. BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad has slammed the opposition parties on the clean chit given to PM Modi. He taunted that the Left gang was behind PM Modi.

On Friday, a three-judge bench said the appeal was baseless. The decision of the Metropolitan Magistrate and later the High Court, then the Special Investigation Team appointed by the Supreme Court, has given a clean chit to PM Modi and others in the SIT.

The top court praised the SIT and reprimanded the appellant for "questioning the integrity of the investigators". The court also talked about "some disgruntled officials of Gujarat and others who are trying to create sensation by making false disclosures." And the law needs to be faced".

Left gang lying behind

Welcoming the Supreme Court's decision, former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that PM Modi has got a clean chit from the court and the public. An attempt was made to look at the Gujarat riots through a political lens. PM Modi has got a clean chit from the SIT and the Supreme Court has also appreciated the investigation of the SIT. The appeal of Zakia Jafri did not have merit, it was also accepted by the Supreme Court. Actually, the Left gang was behind the PM.
