Tripura News: Lord Jagannath's chariot came under the grip of high tension wire in Unakoti district of Tripura on Wednesday evening. 7 people died due to this. There, 18 people got scorched. The incident took place around 4.30 pm in Kumarghat area during 'Ulta Rath Yatra' festival of Lord Jagannath, police said. State Chief Minister Manik Saha has expressed grief over the accident. He said that many pilgrims lost their lives in the accident. At the same time, many people are injured. I am saddened by this incident. My condolences to the families of the victims and wishing speedy recovery to the injured. The state government stands with the victims in this difficult time.

Actually, this heart-wrenching incident took place at Kumarghat in Unakoti district at around 4.30 pm today. The 'Ulta Rath Yatra' festival of Lord Jagannath was being celebrated here. In which the Rath Yatra of Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Lord Jagannath was also being taken out.

Thousands of people were pulling the huge chariot made of iron with their hands. Meanwhile, the iron chariot collided with the high tension electric wires coming out of the way. Strong current spread in the chariot and about two dozen people got electrocuted. Due to current, 6 people died and 15 people got scorched.

Dead bodies caught fire

The bodies of those who have died were set on fire. People were screaming and the dead body was on fire in front of them. People were not able to move forward to help even if they wanted to. Police, fire brigade were informed about the incident. At the same time, 15 scorched people were admitted to the district hospital for treatment.

Chariot collided with 133 KV overhead cable

Regarding the incident, police say that the chariot had come in contact with 133 KV overhead cable. On the other hand, regarding the accident, Assistant Inspector General (Law and Order) Jyotishman Das Chowdhary says that 6 have died and 15 are injured, who have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. The condition of many people is critical.

CM Manik Saha expressed condolences

At the same time, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has expressed grief over this accident. He said that he has expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims. Also said that they wish for the speedy recovery of the injured. It has also said that the state government stands with the victims in this difficult time.
