Madhubani Murder: Daughter-in-law Kills Mother-in-law, Confesses to Husband on Phone, Flees

A gruesome murder has come to light in Malmal Ward No. 5 under the Kaluahi police station area of Madhubani district, Bihar, where a daughter-in-law allegedly killed her 50-year-old mother-in-law, Asha Devi. The victim's body was recovered from the house, and the incident has sent shockwaves through the entire locality. Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. The accused daughter-in-law has fled the scene, and a search operation is underway to apprehend her. The exact motive behind the murder is yet to be established.

Confession Over Phone and Discovery of the Body

According to preliminary information, the name of the deceased's daughter-in-law, Poonam Devi, has emerged as the prime suspect. The matter was revealed when the victim's son-in-law, Sunil Kumar Sahu, received a call from his brother-in-law, Saroj Kumar Sahu. Saroj informed him that Poonam Devi had called him personally to confess that she had murdered her mother-in-law and was leaving the house. Hearing this, Sunil Kumar immediately rushed to his in-laws' residence. He found the door locked from the outside, but upon peeking through a window with the help of locals, he saw Asha Devi's body wrapped in a blanket.

Forensic Investigation and Cause of Death

Station House Officer (SHO) Payal Bharti reached the spot with a police force immediately after being informed. Given the gravity of the case, Police Inspector Abhay Kumar also arrived at the scene with a forensic team. The lock of the house was broken to gain entry, where the body was found wrapped in a blanket. Initial investigations suggest that Asha Devi was killed by a blow to the head with a heavy iron object. The impact was so severe that she died on the spot, while the police have taken custody of the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital, Madhubani, for an autopsy.

Public Outcry and Accused's Background

As news of the incident spread, thousands of people from neighboring villages gathered at the site. Angry villagers blocked the removal of the body, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused. Locals reported that Poonam Devi had a history of disputes with her in-laws. She was previously married to Sukhi Mukhiya from the neighborhood but later entered into a second marriage with Saroj Kumar Sahu. It's alleged that Poonam often exhibited aggressive behavior and frequently engaged in physical altercations with her mother-in-law and neighbors, while despite several panchayat meetings and previous police interventions, the disputes were always settled through compromises.

Khajauli Police Inspector Abhay Kumar stated that the case is being investigated with utmost seriousness, and continuous raids are being conducted to nab the absconding accused, while officials have assured that the accused will be arrested soon and strict legal action will be taken. This brutal murder has once again highlighted the dangerous escalation of domestic disputes, leaving the entire area in a state of fear and anger.
