Uniform Civil Code: Just before the Lok Sabha elections 2024, the Modi government is going to take steps on the issue of Uniform Civil Code (UCC). PM Modi has clearly said in the Bhopal rally that the country cannot be run with two laws. The pressure of the Supreme Court is on them to implement it, but the opposition is spreading confusion. After the Prime Minister's statement on UCC, the politics of the country has heated up.

PM Modi's statement on UCC has come at a time when the opposition parties are unitedly trying to take on the BJP in the 2024 general elections. In the meeting of opposition parties in Patna, the agreement for the alliance has also been made to a large extent. In such a situation, PM Modi has made a big political bet by raising the issue of Uniform Civil Code. If this is being called a master stroke of BJP, then it can become a trap for the opposition.

Let us tell you that the Law Commission has sought the views of the people of the country and all the religious organizations till June 30 regarding the Uniform Civil Code. In such a situation, PM Modi gave a statement regarding UCC for the first time in the Bhopal rally. Prime Minister Modi said that due to the vote bank, the opposition parties have done the work of inciting Muslims on the issue of UCC and spreading confusion. The Supreme Court is constantly asking us about this, when are we going to implement it, but the opposition parties do not want to allow it to be implemented. PM Modi has clearly said that the opposition is becoming an obstacle in the way of UCC, due to which it is not being implemented.

Opposition divided over UCC

Politics has intensified on the Uniform Civil Code. If BJP is seen in aggressive mode then the opposition is seen divided. The Aam Aadmi Party is seen standing with the Modi government on the issue of Uniform Civil Code, while the Congress is not able to protest openly. Congress is telling the bet of diverting from the issue of inflation and unemployment, then Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena has kept silence while DMK has come out in protest. In this way the opposition is scattered.

BJP got AAP's support

The Aam Aadmi Party is standing with the Modi government on the issue of Uniform Civil Code and is in favor of implementing the UCC in the country. AAP leader Sandeep Pathak said that the Aam Aadmi Party supports the central government in principle on the issue of UCC, as Article 44 also talks about implementing the Uniform Civil Code. However, he has also said that UCC should be implemented only after detailed discussion and consensus with all religions, societies, political parties and organizations.

DMK is protesting openly

Raising questions on the Uniform Civil Code, the DMK said that it should first be implemented on Hindus. DMK leader TKS Elangovan said that people of all castes of Hindus should be allowed to visit the temple and offer prayers. People of Dalit and tribal communities are still not allowed to go to many temples and pray in the country. Opposing UCC, DMK said that the constitution has given protection to every religion, due to which we do not want UCC.

Congress in a quandary

The Congress is in a dilemma on the issue of UCC and is not able to take an open stand. Senior Congress leaders from P Chidambaram to KC Venugopal have called it polarizing and distracting from issues related to common people. Chidambaram said that PM Modi is advocating Uniform Civil Code to divert attention from the issues of inflation, unemployment and increasing crimes. Also said that BJP is using UCC for polarisation. Chidambaram said that the UCC cannot be imposed and if it is imposed, the division in the society will increase further. Echoing Chidambaram, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said that people are raising issues like this to divert attention from poverty, inflation and unemployment.

RJD-JDU stand

On the issue of UCC, RJD leader and Rajya Sabha member Manoj Jha said that those who are looking at the Uniform Civil Code from the point of view of Muslims are not able to understand this code. Prime Minister Modi should understand that whatever decision he takes, the country will not accept him. RJD's ally JDU in Bihar is also standing against UCC. JDU leader Vijay Chowdhary said that in the report given by the Law Commission constituted by PM Modi, the UCC has not been considered correct. Due to the unity of the opposition, Modi has raised the UCC. His nervousness is clearly visible from this.

Muslim parties and organizations are protesting

Muslim political parties and organizations are openly opposing the Uniform Civil Code. The Muslim Personal Law Board has made it clear that it will oppose the UCC as it will hinder their Shari'a rights. At the same time, Asaduddin Owaisi targeted PM Modi and said that the Prime Minister considers India's diversity a problem. That's why they are talking like this. Will take away the diversity of the country in the name of UCC.

Why Uddhav Thackeray silent on UCC?

Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena has maintained silence on the issue of Uniform Civil Code while supporting its implementation for a while. When the Law Commission had sought opinion from political organizations in the past, Uddhav Thackeray had said that his party supports the idea of Uniform Civil Code, but this may create problems not only for Muslims but also for Hindus. This view of Uddhav Thackeray on UCC is a revenge for breaking ties with the BJP and going to the opposition camp, as it has been supporting it till then.

Afraid of losing Hindu votes?

Please tell that the politics of the country has changed after 2014. Now, instead of minority-based politics, there has been politics around the majority community. Some seats can be won by the votes of the minority community, but power cannot be captured. This is the reason why no party wants to stand openly on the issues of Muslims, because they feel that the majority community can slip away from them. The lack of clear stand of the opposition parties on the issue of Uniform Civil Code also shows this.
