Nirmohi Akhara Moves Supreme Court Seeking Forensic Audit and Restructuring of Ram Mandir Trust

Nirmohi Akhara has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a forensic audit and restructuring of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The petition alleges a lack of transparency and demands that the trust be declared a public entity with representation from traditional religious bodies.

The legal landscape surrounding the Ayodhya Ram Mandir has witnessed a significant development as the Nirmohi Akhara, one of the primary litigants in the long-standing dispute, has moved the Supreme Court of India, while the Akhara has filed a fresh petition seeking a comprehensive restructuring of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. This move comes as a challenge to the current administrative and financial framework of the trust responsible for the management and construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Demands for Financial Transparency and Forensic Audit

In its petition, the Nirmohi Akhara has made a strong plea for the Supreme Court to declare the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust as a public trust. A central demand of the petition is the initiation of a forensic audit of the trust's financial transactions. The Akhara has expressed concerns regarding the lack of transparency in the current trust's formation and its day-to-day operations. By requesting a forensic audit, the Akhara aims to ensure that the income, expenditure, and utilization of funds collected for the temple construction are subjected to independent and rigorous scrutiny, while the petition emphasizes that an independent investigation into the financial matters related to the temple construction is essential for maintaining public trust.

Implementation of the 2019 Judgment

The petition has been filed by Shri Panch Ramanandi Nirmohi Akhara through Mahant Raja Ramchandracharya Atit Guru Mahant Raghunath Dasji Maharaj. The primary objective of this legal action is to seek directions for the honest and faithful implementation of the Supreme Court's landmark 2019 judgment. The Akhara points out that the Supreme Court had specifically directed that, given its historical presence at the disputed site, the Nirmohi Akhara should be given an appropriate role in the management of the temple and suitable representation within the trust. However, the petition alleges that even after several years, these judicial directions have not been implemented in their true spirit.

Allegations of Operating as a Private Trust

One of the most serious allegations made in the petition is that the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust is effectively functioning as a private trust. The Akhara claims that the trust operates without adequate statutory oversight or accountability. According to the petition, the current structure of the trust doesn't align with the spirit of the Supreme Court's 2019 verdict. The Akhara argues that the management of such a significant religious institution should be more transparent and accountable to the devotees and the public at large.

Proposed Restructuring and Supervisory Committee

The Nirmohi Akhara has urged the Supreme Court to direct the Central Government to make necessary amendments to the trust deed and restructure the Board of Trustees.

The petition concludes by stating that these changes are necessary to ensure that the temple's management is conducted in a more transparent, accountable, and inclusive manner. The future course of action in this matter will be determined following the hearing in the Supreme Court.
