Electricity Crisis: The summer season has started. This time the Meteorological Department has claimed that the record of maximum temperature has been broken. After reading this news, you might have also remembered last year's power crisis. Last year, production was affected in different thermal power projects of the country due to non-supply of coal. Due to which many states had to face power crisis. But this time, seeing the increasing demand for electricity in summer, Indian Railways has prepared a new plan. A roadmap has been prepared by the Railways to use 600 goods trains daily to supply coal to the thermal power project.

Coal demand will increase to 7.5 million tonnes

In this regard, a senior official of the Railway Ministry says that it is expected that the maximum coal demand will increase to 75 million tonnes (MT) by June. We have planned that 35-40 goods trains will be increased every month for the transportation of coal depending on the requirement. He informed that preparations are underway to add about 4,000 wagons or 80 freight trains by June for the transportation of railway coal. On behalf of the Railway Ministry, it was said that on increasing the demand for coal, it has planned to allot 60 more goods trains for coal transportation in June and July.

Currently 460 goods trains are used daily

Railways is working closely with Ministry of Power and Ministry of Coal to provide raw material to all important thermal power projects in the country. Sources in the Railway Ministry say that we have worked on a corridor-based approach. It was told by another railway official that at present 460 goods trains are used for transportation of coal in the country. Keeping in mind the summer, the Railway Ministry is working on a plan to add 80 and 60 goods trains in two times. In this way, the number of goods trains for coal transportation will increase to 600. Coal will be supplied daily from these goods trains.

Let us tell you that there are about 50 wagons in a goods train. It can carry 4,000 tonnes of coal at a time. With the increasing number of wagons, Railways has planned to improve the number of rakes carrying coal. In the year 2022, the people of the country had to face a huge power crisis. In many states of the country, there was a power cut of seven to eight hours declared or unannounced. The main reason for deepening the power crisis was non-supply of coal on time.
