The Task Force NTAGI, set up by the government to set the rules for vaccination in India, has proposed to reduce the period between two doses of Corona Vaccine Kovishield. It is reported that NTAGI has approved the formula for applying the second dose 8-16 weeks after the first dose of Kovishield.

It is noteworthy that at present, under the vaccination policy, the second dose is given 12 to 16 weeks after the first dose of Kovidshield. The National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) has not changed the 28-day time period between two doses of Bharat Biotech's Covaxin.

At present, the proposal made by NTAGI on Covishield is yet to be implemented. According to an official source, the proposal of the advisory group has been made on the basis of some recent scientific studies conducted globally. Under this, when the second dose of Covishield is given after eight weeks, the reaction of the antibodies produced by it is exactly the same as that after giving the second dose between 12 and 16 weeks.

It has been told that if the government approves this proposal, then it will clear the way for the beneficiaries to get the second dose of Kovishield faster. At present, there are 60 to 70 million people in the country who have not received the second dose of this vaccine amidst the cases of corona virus once again raising its head worldwide.

Earlier on May 13, 2021, the central government increased the interval between the first and second doses of Kovishield from 6 to 8 weeks to 12 to 16 weeks. Regarding this too, NTAGI had proposed to the Ministry of Health.
