In a series of violent incidents across Pakistan, unknown armed assailants have carried out two separate attacks resulting in multiple fatalities. In the first incident reported from the Balochistan province, five individuals were shot dead in broad daylight, causing widespread panic and tension in the region. According to reports from ARY News, the incident took place in the Shahrag area of the Harnai district, where unidentified gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on local residents.
The Balochistan Checkpoint Incident
Police officials have revealed that the armed group had established a temporary, unauthorized checkpoint near the Sheikh Musa Baba Chowk, while from this vantage point, they were stopping passersby and demanding to see their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNIC). This intrusive checking process led to a confrontation when several local residents decided to protest against the unauthorized interrogation. The situation quickly escalated from a verbal argument into a violent clash.
As the tension peaked, the gunmen opened fire on the gathered crowd without warning. The brutality of the attack resulted in the immediate death of 4 individuals at the scene. A 5th person, who sustained critical injuries, tragically passed away while being transported to a medical facility in Quetta. The deceased have been identified as Zaman Shah, Zia-ul-Haq, Abdul Kahir, Ikramullah Shah, and Maulvi Zahid Shah, who was a prominent leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam. On top of that, 3 other individuals, identified as Nasir Shah, Mulla Samad, and Sakib Shah, sustained injuries during the shooting and are receiving medical attention.
Newlywed Couple Targeted in Karachi
In a separate but equally chilling incident in Karachi, a newly married couple was shot dead on Monday. The attack occurred shortly after the pair had visited a local court to secure legal recognition for their marriage. Reports from the Dawn newspaper indicate that as the couple departed from the court premises, they were followed by armed assailants. The attackers eventually intercepted their vehicle near the RCD Ground in the Saudabad area.
Upon stopping the vehicle, the gunmen unleashed a barrage of bullets, killing both the husband and wife on the spot. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Korangi, Fida Hussain Janwari, confirmed the fatalities and stated that the investigation is currently underway. Preliminary findings suggest that the woman's family may be involved in the double murder, as they had previously opposed the union.
Background of the Karachi Murder
The investigation has uncovered that the woman had married of her own free will, defying her family's wishes. Prior to the murder, her family had filed a missing person report at the Sachal police station. However, the woman had appeared before the Malir Court to record a formal statement, asserting that she had entered into the marriage voluntarily. The couple had even presented their Nikahnama (marriage contract) to the court to establish the legality of their relationship. Despite these legal precautions, they were targeted in what appears to be a case of family-linked violence, while police officials are currently conducting raids to apprehend the suspects involved in this targeted killing.
