Petrol Diesel Price Today: Fuel Rates Remain Stable After Recent Sharp Hikes

Oil Marketing Companies have kept petrol and diesel prices unchanged on May 30, 2026. This stability follows a series of sharp price increases over the last 11 days, where Delhi saw a total hike of over 7 rupees per liter for both fuels.

Fuel prices across the country remained unchanged today, providing a brief pause for consumers after a series of significant hikes. On Saturday, May 30, 2026, Government Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) decided to keep the prices of petrol and diesel stable. While there were expectations among the general public that the recent decline in global crude oil prices would translate into lower domestic rates, the market prices have remained stagnant for the day, while 82 rupees per liter in the national capital, Delhi.

Four Inflationary Shocks in Just 11 Days

The upward trajectory of fuel prices commenced immediately following the conclusion of assembly elections in five states. During the election period, prices had remained remarkably stable, but the post-result phase brought a heavy financial burden on consumers. 29 rupees per liter. 91 rupees respectively. Exactly four days later, on May 23, the same increment was repeated. 71 rupees per liter, marking a significant cumulative increase in a very short span.

Impact of Global Geopolitics and OMC Losses

The primary driver behind these price adjustments has been the geopolitical tension following the start of the Iran war, which caused global crude oil prices to surge by approximately 50 percent. This sudden spike placed an immense financial strain on domestic oil marketing companies. According to estimates, the high cost of crude oil led to daily losses of approximately 1,380 crore rupees for these companies across the sale of petrol, diesel, LPG, and jet fuel. Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had previously noted that the daily losses for government-run companies had reached nearly 1,000 crore rupees. However, according to a statement made yesterday by Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry, the recent four-phase price hikes have helped reduce this daily loss to 750 crore rupees.

Current Fuel Rates in Major Cities

Despite the recent volatility, the prices for today, May 30, 2026, are as follows in various cities across India:

  • Delhi: Petrol 102.12 rupees and Diesel 95.20 rupees per liter.
