Rahul Gandhi, who had been consistently highlighting the success of the Chhatron Ki Goonj program following the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, was particularly upset that the defeat occurred on the same day as the program in Indore. According to sources, Rahul Gandhi stated that failing to win despite favorable conditions is the responsibility of those holding positions in the student organization. He has instructed KC Venugopal to analyze the reasons for the loss and suggest necessary disciplinary or organizational actions. The final decision regarding the future of the current leadership will be taken by Rahul Gandhi himself after the submission of the review report.

Scrutiny on Kanhaiya Kumar and Vinod Jakhar

The primary focus of the investigation is on the strategy adopted by NSUI in-charge Kanhaiya Kumar and NSUI President Vinod Jakhar. Questions are being raised about their electoral planning and candidate selection. However, sources close to Kanhaiya Kumar suggest that the internal dynamics were complicated by caste politics. It's alleged that Jat candidates from both Congress and BJP backgrounds were reluctant to contest against each other. Deepanshu Shokeen, who eventually won as an independent Vice President, reportedly refused to contest for the President's post at the last moment because the ABVP candidate, Yash Dabas, was also from the Jat community.

Internal Conflicts and Strategic Lapses

The review will also look into why Deepanshu Shokeen refused to contest for the Joint Secretary post, where NSUI had fielded another Jat candidate, Gopal Chaudhary. Shokeen's decision to run as an independent candidate with Jat support ultimately led to his victory but damaged the NSUI's official panel, while while some senior Congress leaders are reportedly interested in bringing Shokeen back into the party, Kanhaiya Kumar has taken a firm stand against it. He argued that Shokeen prioritized caste solidarity over the party and disrupted the entire panel's composition, making his actions anti-party.

KC Venugopal's review will specifically examine the absence of a screening committee for candidate selection, which allegedly led to the distribution of tickets based on personal preferences rather than merit. The role of two senior leaders from the main Congress organization in Haryana and Delhi, along with several former NSUI officials, is also under the scanner for allegedly working against the party's authorized candidates. On top of that, the report will investigate the decision to give a ticket to Veer Chatrath and the failure to correct the resulting imbalance in the candidate panel in a timely manner.
