Rahul Gandhi News / Rahul Gandhi reached Poonch, will meet the families affected by Pakistani firing

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday visited Poonch to meet families affected by Pakistani shelling. This is his second visit after the Pahalgam terror attack. He gave a message of national unity. 27 civilians were killed and more than 70 injured in the recent firing by Pakistan.

Rahul Gandhi News: Congress National General Secretary Ghulam Ahmed Mir said that Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi reached Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, where he met the families affected by the recent Pakistani shelling. This visit is not just a political visit, but has emerged as a symbol of human sensitivities and national unity.

This visit of Rahul Gandhi has taken place for the second time on the soil of Jammu and Kashmir after the Pahalgam terror attack on 22 April. 26 innocent people, most of whom were tourists, were killed in that attack. Rahul Gandhi had even then given a strong message against terrorism, saying that the purpose of such attacks is to divide the country, and it can only be answered with national unity and brotherhood.

Situation serious in Poonch

The recent incidents in Poonch are part of Pakistan's efforts to continuously spread instability in Jammu and Kashmir. On May 7, India carried out precision strikes on nine terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under 'Operation Sindoor'. These targets included Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba hideouts.

Following these retaliatory actions, Pakistan in a fit of panic started heavy shelling in the Poonch sector. Pakistan also targeted civilians in artillery, missile and drone attacks between 8 and 10 May. While the Indian air defense system foiled most of the attacks, the news of 27 civilians being killed and more than 70 injured in this attack shocked the entire country.

Interaction with grieving families

Rahul Gandhi visited Poonch and met the families who lost their loved ones in this attack. According to Ghulam Ahmed Mir, this visit was not just a formality but was inspired by a deep sense of condolence and support. Rahul Gandhi shared the grief of the affected families and assured them that the country is with them.

He also reiterated that the fight against terrorism is possible not only with weapons, but by protecting social unity and democratic values. His visit comes at a time when Jammu and Kashmir is once again going through a situation of insecurity and tension.

Message of solidarity

Rahul Gandhi's visit to Poonch also gives a big political signal—that if citizens are in trouble in any part of the nation, then every citizen and every leader of the country stands with them. This visit is a ray of hope for those who had looked to the country for help in the most difficult moments of their lives.

His presence in Poonch made it clear that the role of the opposition is not limited to only raising questions, but also to reach out to the victims at the grassroots level and stand with them.
