Rahul Gandhi News: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has been sentenced to two years by the Surat district court. A court has convicted Rahul Gandhi in a criminal defamation case against him over his alleged 'Modi surname' remark. Explain that during an election rally in 2019, BJP MLA and former cabinet minister Purnesh Modi had filed a defamation claim against Rahul Gandhi against his objectionable remarks about the Modi surname. Under Section 504, Rahul Gandhi has been sentenced to two years.

Significantly, Rahul Gandhi has appeared in Surat court thrice earlier. However, Rahul Gandhi had said in his statement inside the court that he denies the allegations leveled against him. Rahul Gandhi had said that he did not remember saying this in the election rally.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi's advocate Kirit Panwala told that the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate HH Verma last week heard the arguments of both the sides and fixed the date of March 23 for pronouncement of the verdict. A case has been registered against Rahul Gandhi under IPC sections 499 and 500 (defamation). Earlier in October 2021, Rahul Gandhi appeared in the Surat court to record his statement.
