A major update has emerged regarding the Rajasthan Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Recruitment 2021. The recruitment process will remain cancelled as the Supreme Court has dismissed the petition filed by the selected candidates. In its verdict, the Supreme Court directed the petitioners to file a review petition in the Rajasthan High Court. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi represented the petitioners during the proceedings.
Supreme Court Verdict and Legal Context
The bench of Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma delivered the judgment concerning the Rajasthan Police SI Recruitment 2021. The petition challenged the decision of the Division Bench of the Rajasthan High Court, which had upheld the Single Bench's order to cancel the entire recruitment process. While the selected candidates requested that the recruitment not be cancelled in its entirety, the unsuccessful candidates had also filed a caveat in the Supreme Court.
Recruitment Details and Paper Leak Controversy
In 2021, applications were invited for 859 Sub-Inspector posts in the Rajasthan Police, attracting over 7 lakh applicants. Following the written examination and physical tests, interviews were conducted, and the final results were declared in 2023. However, shortly after the results were announced, allegations of a paper leak surfaced, leading to legal challenges against the recruitment process.
High Court Rulings and RPSC Involvement
The matter reached the Rajasthan High Court, where the Single Bench ordered the cancellation of the SI recruitment on August 28, 2025. Subsequently, the Double Bench of the High Court upheld this decision in 2026. While cancelling the recruitment, the Single Bench raised serious questions regarding the roles of the then Chairman and members of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC). Notably, one member of the RPSC has already been arrested in connection with the paper leak case.
The selected candidates had approached the Supreme Court to challenge the Double Bench's decision. By dismissing the petition, the Supreme Court has maintained the cancellation of the recruitment and advised the candidates to seek a review through the Rajasthan High Court.
