An expert panel of the Central Drugs Authority of India has recommended allowing the conduct of Phase III trial of single-dose COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik Lite as a booster dose. Official sources gave this information on Saturday. The recommendations have been sent to the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for final approval.

DCGI had given permission under the conditions

DCGI on February 4 allowed emergency use for the Sputnik Lite vaccine in India subject to certain regulatory provisions. Hyderabad-based Dr. Reddy's Laboratories had put forward its proposal to DCGI to conduct phase-3 trial of Sputnik Lite vaccine as a booster dose. Sputnik Light is similar to Component-1 of Sputnik V.

An official source said that the CDSCO's Subject Expert Committee (SEC) on COVID-19, after detailed deliberations, reviewed the application on Friday with the condition to start the trial with the Sputnik Lite vaccine in Phase-III. Recommended allowing clinical trials. For this, the firm has already been granted emergency use in the country subject to certain regulatory provisions. The Sputnik Lite vaccine is approved in 29 countries, including Argentina and Russia.
