New Delhi : On Saturday, the police made a big disclosure in the death case of BJP leader Sonali Phogat. Goa Police has said that before Sonali Phogat's death, she was given a drug named 'Methamphetamine' by the accused in the restaurant. Police have so far arrested Phogat's personal assistant Sudhir Sangwan, another associate Sukhwinder Singh, restaurant owner Edwin Nunes and alleged drug smuggler Datta Prasad Gaonkar in this case.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Jeevba Dalvi said that the remaining part of the narcotic that Phogat was given at Anjuna's Curlies restaurant has been seized from the restaurant's washroom. Dalvi said, "The drug that Phogat was given has been identified as methamphetamine." Sahyog Singh and Sangwan have been booked for murder while Gaonkar and Nunes have been booked under the NDPS Act.

Gaonkar had supplied drugs to Sangwan

Gaonkar had allegedly supplied drugs to Singh and Sangwan. Gaonkar is an employee of the hotel in Anjuna where Phogat was staying. Former Tiktok artist and contestant of the 14th season of reality show 'Bigg Boss', Phogat died on August 23, a day after coming to Goa. The police have so far arrested four people in this case.

Was suspected of giving drugs earlier

Police had said on Friday that Sangwan and Singh had allegedly mixed some intoxicant in the water and forced Phogat to drink it. Phogat, 42, was brought dead on August 23 morning from his hotel at St. Anthony's Hospital in Anjuna in North Goa district. A local court on Saturday sent Sangwan and Singh to police custody for 10 days.

Demand for CBI inquiry into the murder

Meanwhile, the opposition Congress demanded a CBI probe into the alleged murder. Leader of Opposition in Goa Legislative Assembly Michael Lobo said, "Many leaders said that he (Phogat) died of a heart attack. But eventually it was revealed that he had been murdered. Every aspect must be examined. This kind of case needs to be probed by CBI.
