Rajya Sabha Elections: Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi is the party's candidate from Rajasthan in the Rajya Sabha elections and today she has also filed her nomination in Jaipur. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi were also present with Sonia at the time of her nomination. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Leader of Opposition Tikaram Julie and PCC President Govind Singh Dotasra received Sonia Gandhi at Jaipur Airport. Even before Sonia reached Jaipur, nomination forms were filled and sets were prepared. Along with the nomination form, 10 MLAs each got signed as proposer and supporter. Congress party has also released the list of its candidates for Rajya Sabha elections. The last date for filing nomination papers is 15 February.

Before the 2024 general elections, elections are being held on 56 Rajya Sabha seats in the country, out of which Congress is getting 10 seats, but everyone's eyes are on Sonia Gandhi. There was discussion going on for the last several days that Sonia Gandhi will not contest the elections this time. Only after this, speculations started being made that if Sonia Gandhi will go to Rajya Sabha then from where. Earlier there was discussion about Himachal Pradesh, but later Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee recommended Sonia Gandhi to contest elections from there. Sonia Gandhi also filed her nomination on Wednesday.

RRR factor behind Sonia Gandhi's decision

RRR factor is believed to be the main reason behind Sonia Gandhi's nomination from Rajasthan. The first R in this is Rahul Gandhi, who has openly said in several meetings in the past that it is not right for three people from the Gandhi family to contest the Lok Sabha elections. He wanted mother Sonia Gandhi to contest elections from Rajasthan itself, which is the second factor in this decision, in fact the Congress Party believed that Manmohan Singh would not be a candidate from Rajasthan.

In such a situation, if Sonia Gandhi is sent to Rajya Sabha from the vacant seat, it will be beneficial in uniting the leaders, officials and workers of the state. A large section of the party also wanted the same thing. The third factor is the Rajya Sabha seat, if Sonia Gandhi will not contest the Lok Sabha elections due to age and ill health, she will continue to represent the party in the Upper House.

This is also the reason for choosing Rajasthan

One advantage of Sonia Gandhi choosing Rajasthan is that due to her candidature, the race among big local leaders including Jitendra Singh Pawan Kheda to go to Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan has stopped. Pawan Kheda himself was seen saying while talking to the media that it is a matter of happiness for me that Sonia ji is going to Rajya Sabha from my state. Apart from this, there is no better option than Sonia Gandhi to replace Manmohan Singh, with this the party will also be successful in giving the message that Rajasthan is very important for them.

Hope of benefit in Lok Sabha elections also

The party is also believing that Sonia Gandhi's election from here can impact 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Last time the party had performed well on these assembly seats. With this decision of the party, a message is also being given to those leaders like Ashok Gehlot, Sachin Pilot who were not very interested in contesting the Lok Sabha elections. Now the responsibility of making the party win maximum seats in Rajasthan will be on the big leaders of the state.
