A catastrophic road accident occurred in the Surat district of Gujarat on Tuesday, resulting in the loss of 8 lives and leaving several others injured. The incident took place near Uva village in the Bardoli taluka on National Highway 53. The collision involved two government-run buses belonging to the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). The impact of the crash was so severe that one of the buses overturned on the road and immediately caught fire, trapping many passengers inside the burning vehicle.
Details of the Surat Collision and Emergency Response
According to official reports, the collision happened with such force that the bus lost control and flipped over. The ensuing fire created a horrific scene as flames engulfed the vehicle. Bardoli Rural Police Inspector P. N. Jadeja, who was present at the site, provided details to reporters. He stated that both buses involved in the accident were operated by the Maharashtra State Transport Corporation. At this stage, the police are still investigating whether it was a head-on collision or if both buses were traveling in the same direction when the accident occurred.
The immediate aftermath of the crash saw 8 people losing their lives on the spot. More than 10 passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention. Police officials expressed concerns that more passengers might still be trapped inside the charred remains of the bus. Upon receiving the news, a large contingent of police personnel and fire brigade teams from Surat and the neighboring Tapi district arrived at the location. Firefighters worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames and bring the situation under control.
Tragedy in Rajkot: Pilgrims Bus Overturns
In a separate and equally tragic incident in the Rajkot district of Gujarat, a private bus carrying pilgrims overturned near Gondal town. This accident occurred in the early hours of May 25, around 4:30 AM, near Vorakotda village in the Gondal taluka. The mishap resulted in the death of a woman and her daughter-in-law, while approximately 20 other passengers were injured. The bus was returning from a pilgrimage to various religious sites, including Bagdana, having departed from Gondal on the morning of May 24 with about 60 devotees on board.
The cause of the accident was linked to a narrow stretch of road near Vorakotda village, while as the bus was returning, a truck approached from the opposite direction. Due to the narrowness of the road, both vehicles couldn't pass simultaneously. In an attempt to give way to the truck, the bus driver began reversing the vehicle. However, he was unable to accurately judge the distance, leading the bus to veer off the elevated road and overturn into a field below. The victims were identified as a mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law who were part of the group of devotees.
