US Election Results: Donald Trump's party Republican has captured the US House on Wednesday in the election. Republicans have returned to power in Washington by securing the required majority figure. But this one-majority figure will present many challenges for GOP leaders and complicate the party's ability to govern.

Clear data may take weeks to come

More than a week after election day, Republicans have secured the 218th seat needed to flip control of the US House from the Democratic Party. However, the full tally of the party's majority may not be clear for several more days or weeks as votes are still being counted in the neck-and-neck contest.

Republicans' lowest majority figure of the 21st century

The Republicans are believed to be on their way to working together. This may be the smallest majority of the party in the 21st century. In 2001, Republicans held a majority of just nine seats, 221–212, with two independents. The 218 seats in the US midterm elections are far short of the predicted major Republican victory. The party was expected to capitalize on economic challenges and Biden's declining popularity to reset the agenda on Capitol Hill.

Kevin McCarthy's plan to become speaker in trouble

In contrast, Democrats made surprise comebacks, capturing suburban districts from Virginia to Minnesota and Kansas. But the results could complicate House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy's plans to become speaker as some conservative members have questioned their support and many have placed conditions on their endorsement.
