Manipur CM Resign: Amid ethnic violence and political discontent in Manipur for the last two years, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has resigned from his post. He submitted his resignation to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal. This decision has given a new direction to the political circumstances of the state.

Background of resignation

The situation in Manipur had remained tense for the last two years due to the ongoing ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities. Along with this, discontent was also growing among the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs, which ultimately became the main reason for the resignation of the Chief Minister.

N Biren Singh had a long discussion with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda in Delhi before this important decision. After this meeting on Sunday, he returned directly to Imphal and submitted his resignation to the Governor.

Political upheaval and disagreement within the party

The budget session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly was scheduled to begin on Monday, and the situation was further complicated due to the no-confidence motion proposed by the Congress.

NDA ally, National People's Party (NPP), also withdrew support from the government, increasing difficulties for the BJP government. Also, many senior leaders and MLAs of the party started speaking openly against the Chief Minister.

Biren Singh was accused of failing to ensure the safety of his ministers and MLAs. With increasing pressure from within and outside the party, he was left with no option but to resign.

Events before resignation

February 2-3: Manipur Governor Ajay Bhalla reached Delhi and met Home Minister Amit Shah. He submitted a detailed report on the situation in the state.

February 4: The Supreme Court directed the CFSL to submit a report within a month to investigate the alleged audio case of N Biren Singh. In this audio, the Chief Minister was said to incite violence.

February 5: On the day of Delhi Assembly elections, Biren Singh came to Delhi and tried to meet Amit Shah and JP Nadda, but could not meet in person.

6 February: N Biren Singh arrived in Prayagraj for Maha Snan, where several cabinet ministers were also present with him.

7 February: He returned to Delhi from Prayagraj.

9 February: After meeting Amit Shah and JP Nadda in Delhi, he went to Imphal and submitted his resignation to the Governor. During this, BJP's Manipur in-charge Sambit Patra was also with him.

Further prospects

After Biren Singh's resignation, the search for a new leadership has started in Manipur politics. Discussions are going on within the BJP regarding the name of the new Chief Minister. Also, the challenge of controlling ethnic violence and political instability in the state also remains.

Now it remains to be seen in which direction the political situation in Manipur moves forward and whether BJP is able to keep its government stable in the state or not.
