Zoom News : Jul 03, 2021, 10:39 AM
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat resigned from his post, putting an end to the political speculation that has been going on for the past few days. He submitted his resignation to the Governor Baby Rani Maurya after reaching Raj Bhavan in Dehradun at 11.15 pm on Friday. Today Uttarakhand can get a new Chief Minister again, for which a meeting of the legislature parties will be held today. Tirath Rawat was sworn in as the Chief Minister on March 10 last and thus Rawat could not even complete the four-month term and failed to remove the roadblocks. However, a new leader will be elected in the BJP Legislature Party meeting in Dehradun at 3 o'clock today.

Brainstorming going on to make fast chief minister:

According to sources, the by-polls have been one of the reasons, but the central leadership had already decided that Tirath Singh Rawat would not be the face in the elections even after being the chief minister. Later it also came to the fore that more problems may increase in the presence of Tirath Singh Rawat. Therefore, it would be better if the leadership should be changed and an effective and flamboyant MLA should be made the Chief Minister. Legislature party meeting has been called on Saturday. All the big leaders of the state unit will be involved in this and the decision will be implemented.

By-election became a big hurdle:

Less than a year is left for the Uttarakhand assembly elections and Rawat's election as a member of the assembly by September 10 is a constitutional obligation to continue in office, but this was the only option left in view of the possibility of a by-election. The Chief Minister said that they cannot come by election within the prescribed period of six months under Section 191A of the Representation of the People Act. That's why I resigned from my post. Tirath thanked the big leaders of the party for taking them to this point.

What was the constitutional problem before Rawat?

According to the constitution, BJP MP from Pauri Garhwal Tirath Singh Rawat had to win the assembly by-election within 6 months. Only then could he remain the chief minister. That is, before September 10, he had to win the legislative assembly. Some reports claimed that Tirath Singh would contest from Gangotri. However, CM Rawat faced a constitutional crisis of becoming an MLA after the Election Commission refused to hold the bypolls before September. Sources said that the Election Commission is yet to take a decision regarding the Uttarakhand by-elections. The source said that these elections depend only on the situation of corona infection.

Completed tenure of only 115 days

After the resignation of former Chief Minister Trivendra Rawat, he was sworn in as Chief Minister on 10 March. In this way, he remained in the post of Chief Minister for only 115 days. He was such a Chief Minister who did not get a chance to be present in the assembly as a leader.

The challenge of saving the image in front of the party

Despite 56 MLAs in the state, the party is being accused of political instability due to change of two chief ministers in the BJP. In the next assembly elections, the image of the party that has brought political instability in front of the party will have to be removed.

Two contenders for new CM

According to sources, the names of Satpal Maharaj and Dhan Singh Rawat are being discussed among the names that have emerged for the future leadership in the BJP. Earlier, before leaving for Dehradun from Delhi, Tirath Singh Rawat said that he would work on the instructions of the top leadership.

Dera was established in Delhi:

Tirath Singh Rawat, who has been camping in Delhi for three days, on Friday, met Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda for the second time within the last twenty-four hours. The nearly half-an-hour meeting with him at Nadda's residence came at a time when all kinds of speculations were being made about Rawat's future. Rawat, the Lok Sabha MP from Pauri, took over as the chief minister on March 10 this year. To continue in his post, it is a constitutional obligation for him to be elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly by 10 September. Earlier, Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat was asked to resign. As soon as Tirath Singh Rawat reached Dehradun from Delhi on Friday, news came out that the Chief Minister had offered to resign in front of Nadda if there was no possibility of a by-election. Meanwhile, at 10 o'clock in the night, he counted his achievements by holding a press conference. The BJP's confidence has started to falter ahead of the state assembly elections. The decision to change two chief ministers in four months clearly shows how upset the party is about the next assembly elections. On March 10, after making Tirath Singh Rawat the Chief Minister, the party had started implementing the election strategy that Tirath Singh got into controversy with his statements. He didn't have much to do in Kumbh and Corona. But he didn't seem to be doing a good job either. After the election results of Bengal, the BJP assessed the performance of all the governments, then Uttarakhand remained behind in that too.
