Snowfall / 25 villages of Uttarakhand empty; More than 20 thousand residents will return in April after winter

Dharchula (Pithairagarh): You would have heard about the arrangement of different capital for winter and summer. But residents of more than 25 villages in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, bordering China, have built homes on the same concept. One for winter and the other for summer. The summer houses are on the Behar valley along the way to the Kailash Mansarovar as well as the Jhehar and Dharma hills.

At the same time, the winter houses are in Dharchula, Jauljibi, Didihat and Thal in the lower areas, 100-150 km from here. Snowfall has continued in the upper regions since November. These villages covered in snow from 5 to 6 feet are empty. More than 20 thousand residents here have gone to the lower areas with their cattle in October. Before leaving, they fertilize the fields and pack the doors of the houses with polythene. Phafad, barley, peas and rajma are cultivated in these areas. In the lower areas, they have built houses close to their relatives.

Sales of goods at stores increase by 10 to 15%

These people temporarily do small jobs during their stay. Since these people come every year, the work is easily found. Jivendra, who runs Shah's eatery in Chaukodi, Didihat, says that these people come every year, so they trust. The migration of these people also increases the population of the four towns, but business has also increased. Hyatt Bisht, a grocery shopkeeper in Dharchula, says that on average, sales are 10 to 15% higher due to migration. In April, these people will again go to the upper areas.

Half of the children study in upper, Half in lower areas

  • In October, these people walk on mountainous routes. There is a household item in the hoop. Do not carry too much luggage.
  • Weather address is given for weddings. Voting has been facilitated in the upper or lower regions according to the weather.
  • Children also study in two parts. Children study for six months in the mountains primary school and six months in Dharchula.
  • People from more than 25 villages, including Lamari, Budhi, Garviyang, Namta, Gunji, Nobi, Nabdang, Rongkang, visit the lower areas.
