Russia-Ukraine war: In the midst of the Russia-Ukraine war, the whole world panicked after a fire in Ukraine and Europe's largest nuclear power plant. According to a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Ukraine has four nuclear power plants with 15 reactors that could be lethal in the face of war. According to the report, there are a total of 443 reactors in 35 countries of the world, where 10 percent of the world's electricity is produced.

The US has the largest number of 93 nuclear power reactors. France has 56, China has 51 and Russia has 38 reactors. India ranks seventh in the world with 23 reactors.

54 reactors under construction in 20 countries

According to the IAEA, 54 nuclear power reactors are currently under construction in 20 countries, including India, China, Russia, South Korea, Finland and France. China is the largest reactor builder in the world, with 50 reactors operating at present. At the same time, the construction work of 13 is going on. Similarly, construction work of more than seven nuclear plants is going on in India.

Nuclear plants near 13 European countries

Of the 27 countries in the European Union, 13 have nuclear power plants. There are a total of 107 reactors operating here, which generate 26 percent of the electricity consumed in the entire Union. Four power plants are under construction in Slovakia, Finland and France. France is the largest country in the European Union with 56 operational reactors.

Accidents in nuclear power plants:

1986: Incident occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine. It had a rating of seven. Which is considered the most horrific accident in history. In the accident, 100 people died directly while there was loss of life and property for a long time.

2011: On March 11, Japan's Fukushima nuclear power plant was hit by a tsunami and an earthquake. It also had a rating of seven. There was no immediate death from the accident, but many workers working at the plant were scorched due to radiation exposure.

Between 1952 and 2019, there have been a total of 99 accidents at nuclear power plants around the world. However, these accidents were brought under control in time. Barring two major accidents, there was no loss of life or property in any of the accidents.

If the accident rating is more than five then the danger

According to the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (INES), the accident rating of nuclear power reactors is between one and four, so its scope is limited. If the range is between five and seven then it is frightening. Its consequences can be seen on a large scale. There have been only two accidents of this rating in the world so far.
