Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday shared detailed information regarding a massive and decisive anti-narcotics operation conducted across several states in the North-East region. He stated that security forces and investigative agencies have successfully busted an international narcotics syndicate. The security forces have arrested 18 individuals from the states of Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur during this coordinated multi-state sweep. The Union Home Minister congratulated the entire operation team, which comprised members of various central agencies and dedicated police personnel from the three participating states. He shared information about this specialized mission, codenamed Operation Trident, through the social media platform X. Amit Shah explained that this illicit network operated across the international borders of India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh through the notorious Death Triangle Corridor to smuggle contraband substances.
In his post on the social media platform X, Amit Shah stated that this operation clearly reflects the central government's firm resolve to make India completely drug-free by December 31, 2029. He strongly emphasized that the nation will continue launching aggressive strikes until these drug syndicates and narco-cartels are completely eradicated from the roots, while the Union Minister stated that our agencies conducted simultaneous raids at 38 locations across Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur on October 23, effectively dismantling an international drug trafficking ring. He further detailed that this major operation uncovered hawala transactions worth 100 crore rupees, resulted in the freezing of 1,424 bank accounts, led to the seizure of 17 crore rupees 82 paisa in assets, recovered 500 detonators along with 12 lakh rupees in cash, and culminated in the arrest of 18 people.
Notably, Amit Shah had earlier described illegal narcotics as one of the biggest challenges facing India, warning that if left unchecked, it has the potential to ruin the nation's progress and destroy the younger generation, while he had previously announced that the central government aims to make the country completely drug-free by December 2029. During his address delivered from the National Police Memorial in New Delhi on October 21, he had passionately appealed to police forces across the length and breadth of the country to remain fully committed to making India drug-free and eradicating this menace from its roots once and for all.
He had noted that police forces and Central Armed Police Forces have played a pivotal role in India's development journey, which includes combating insurgency and left-wing extremism alongside leading the nation's ongoing battle against illicit narcotics. Shah stated that these immortal heroes remained steadfast in their solemn resolve that not even an inch of the nation's sacred soil should ever fall into foreign hands, and they made the supreme sacrifice while dutifully serving the motherland. Ever since, October 21 is observed every year across the country as Police Commemoration Day. He further added that no one can even fathom where the nation would stand today if these brave security personnel had not laid down their lives defending our internal security and international borders.
The comprehensive briefing provided by the Home Minister underscores the government's zero-tolerance policy against drug cartels operating in vulnerable border regions. The Death Triangle Corridor has long served as a passage for cross-border criminal syndicates seeking to destabilize the social fabric of the country through illegal drug trade. By freezing over one thousand bank accounts and unearthing massive hawala channels, the investigative teams have struck a crippling blow to the financial infrastructure sustaining these criminal networks. The operation stands as a testament to the smooth intelligence sharing and operational synergy between central law enforcement agencies and the state police forces of Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur.
As the central government advances toward its ambitious target of a drug-free India by the year 2029, security grids across the eastern and northeastern frontiers have been Importantly tightened. Law enforcement authorities have reiterated that surveillance on transit routes, financial transactions, and suspected operatives will be intensified in the coming days. The successful execution of Operation Trident is expected to serve as a strong deterrent against organized crime syndicates attempting to exploit regional terrain for illegal narcotics distribution, reaffirming the state's unwavering commitment to protecting the nation's youth and maintaining internal peace.
