Law canceled recently

Let us tell you that the Assam government has repealed the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Registration Act, 1935 in the state. The Act provided for voluntary registration of Muslim marriages and divorces and required the Government to grant a license authorizing a Muslim person to register Muslim marriages and divorces on application for such registration. After this step of the government, it is being said that it may soon take steps for UCC also.

Now it is not possible to register Muslim marriage and divorce

It will not be possible to register Muslim marriages and divorces under the law repealed by the Assam government. Giving information about this, Assam Government Minister Jayant Malla Barua said that we already have a Special Marriage Act and we want all marriages to be registered under its provisions. He said there are currently 94 authorized persons in Assam who can register Muslim marriages and divorces. But with the Cabinet decision, their authority will end once the district authorities issue instructions for the same.
