Azam Khan detained by ED right after Rampur jail release for court hearing

Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan has been taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case immediately after his release from Rampur jail. He will be presented before a Ghaziabad court.

Senior Samajwadi Party leader and former minister Azam Khan is facing a massive escalation in his ongoing legal troubles as the Enforcement Directorate has taken him into custody immediately following his release from the Rampur district jail. Azam Khan was released from the jail after the Allahabad High Court granted him bail in a dual PAN card case, but federal investigators were waiting at the exit gates to intercept him. According to official details shared by Enforcement Directorate officials, the central investigative agency will now present the veteran politician before a special court in Ghaziabad, where formal arrest procedures will be officially executed. Speaking to mediapersons right after stepping out of the jail premises, Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan expressed his anguish by questioning what is left to say and what he can possibly comment on the ongoing developments. He alleged that the very existence of the rule of law has completely vanished and claimed that he's being punished solely for being a Muslim. He raised a rhetorical question asking whether their only fault was that a university was established by a Muslim and whether building schools for children has become their greatest crime in the eyes of authorities.

Massive ED crackdown on Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust and University properties

The Enforcement Directorate has initiated a massive and stringent enforcement action against properties belonging to the Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust, which is deeply linked to Azam Khan. The central investigative agency has provisionally attached a staggering amount of assets, including vast land parcels and sprawling buildings of the Jauhar University, valued at four hundred twenty-six crores and forty-six lakh rupees, while the actual current market value of all these attached properties has been estimated to be around one thousand one hundred and seventy crores. The sprawling campus of the Jauhar University, situated in SinghanKheda village of Rampur district, is officially registered under the name of the Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust. This prominent trust was originally established by Mohammad Azam Khan himself, and administrative control over the trust is primarily vested in him. Also, Azam Khan has also been serving as the Chancellor of this esteemed university for a long duration.

Grave allegations of forcible land acquisition from farmers and PMLA investigation

The Enforcement Directorate initiated its comprehensive money laundering probe under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act on the basis of twenty-six separate First Information Reports registered at the Azamnagar police station in Rampur. In all these registered FIRs, specific allegations under section three hundred eighty-four and other stringent provisions of the Indian Penal Code stated that local poor farmers' agricultural lands were forcibly and illegally occupied to facilitate the establishment and expansion of the Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar University. During the course of the detailed investigation, an official report submitted by the Rampur district administration revealed the shocking finding that approximately forty-five plots of enemy property spanning around thirty-four acres in SinghanKheda village were also allegedly subjected to illegal occupation. The investigative agency alleges that this enemy property land was extensively utilized for the university campus, despite the official custodian appointed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs having already cancelled the land lease granted to the trust. Now, the actual physical possession of this entire land parcel has been legally reclaimed by the enemy property custodian of the Ministry of Home Affairs through the active intervention of the Rampur district administration.

Substantiated allegations of public funds diversion and misuse for private university

The extensive investigation conducted by the Enforcement Directorate has also brought to light several critical aspects concerning the alleged massive misappropriation and misuse of public funds. According to the findings of the investigative agency, funds specifically allocated by the government for public welfare and infrastructural development projects were systematically and cunningly diverted toward the private accounts and construction activities of the university. The investigation further alleges that several government-funded public works were executed directly inside the private premises of the university, and contractors who successfully secured lucrative government contracts were coerced into routing money back to the trust in the form of substantial donations. In connection with this major financial irregularity, the Enforcement Directorate shared vital information and documentary evidence with the Uttar Pradesh police under section sixty-six sub-section two of the PMLA. Building firmly upon these inputs, a fresh criminal case bearing FIR number zero two twenty-four of two thousand twenty-six was formally registered on October thirteen, two thousand twenty-six, at the Azamnagar police station in Rampur. Under this new case, criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and stringent provisions under sections seven and thirteen of the Prevention of Corruption Act nineteen eighty-eight were invoked against Azam Khan, his trust, and several other named and unnamed individuals.

Sordid allegations of bulldozer demolitions, extortion, and looting in year 2016

The Enforcement Directorate has also brought twenty-eight other FIRs registered by the Rampur local police against Azam Khan and his associates under the broad umbrella of its ongoing money laundering investigation, while charge sheets have already been filed by local police in competent courts for the majority of these registered cases. These FIRs and police charge sheets contain deeply disturbing allegations that during the year 2016, residential houses belonging to numerous impoverished families across various localities in Rampur city were ruthlessly bulldozed and razed to the ground. A significant proportion of these affected families were residing as legal or illegal tenants on properties belonging to the Waqf board. The core allegation in the investigation points out that an aggressive mob spearheaded by the then-serving circle officer and other police personnel carried out these large-scale demolitions under the direct verbal or written instructions of Azam Khan. Throughout this brutal demolition drive, helpless residents and women inside the homes were severely assaulted, threatened with implication in false criminal cases, and their hard-earned cash, precious gold ornaments, and domestic cattle were openly looted. The investigation has further unearthed the striking revelation that the heavy rubble and debris generated from these demolished homes were transported using trucks and tractors directly inside the Jauhar University campus, where they were utilized for ongoing construction work.

Serious allegations involving the misappropriation of Rampur municipal sanitation machinery

Another grave corruption angle involving the Rampur municipal council has also surfaced prominently during the intensive probe conducted by the Enforcement Directorate. According to detailed descriptions available within the police charge sheets and official FIRs, modern sanitation and cleaning machinery procured using heavy public funds meant exclusively for the municipal development and sanitation maintenance of Rampur town was allegedly diverted illicitly to the private campus of the Jauhar University for personal utilization, while the central investigative agency is currently examining all these interconnected facets of money laundering and financial wrongdoings with utmost scrutiny to unravel the complete truth behind this multi-layered scam before the court of law and ensure stringent legal accountability for all perpetrators involved.
