BJP Wins All Three Madhya Pradesh Rajya Sabha Seats Unopposed, Details Inside

The Bharatiya Janata Party has secured all three Rajya Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh unopposed. Candidates Tarun Chugh, Rajneesh Agrawal, and Mahesh Kewat were declared winners after the nomination of Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan was rejected, leading to a clean sweep for the ruling party.

In a major political development in Madhya Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has successfully secured all three Rajya Sabha seats from the state. The victory was confirmed after the three BJP candidates were elected unopposed to the upper house of Parliament. This clean sweep for the BJP comes as a significant boost to the party's representation in the Rajya Sabha from Central India.

The Victorious BJP Candidates

The path for the BJP candidates became clear following the completion of the nomination withdrawal period, while with no other valid contenders remaining in the race for the three vacant seats, the election process concluded without the need for voting. The three leaders who have been officially elected to the Rajya Sabha are Tarun Chugh, Rajneesh Agrawal, and Mahesh Kewat. According to reports from the state capital, the winning candidates have already been handed their election certificates within the Madhya Pradesh Assembly premises, marking the formal conclusion of their election process.

Rejection of Congress Nomination

The unopposed victory was made possible after the nomination of the Congress party's candidate, Meenakshi Natarajan, was rejected during the scrutiny phase. The disqualification of the Congress nominee left the BJP candidates without any opposition, effectively ending the contest, while this development has sparked a significant legal and political row in the state, with the Congress party expressing strong dissatisfaction over the decision of the returning officer.

Legal Battle in the Supreme Court

Following the rejection of her nomination, Meenakshi Natarajan approached the Supreme Court of India to challenge the decision of the returning officer. In her petition, she described the rejection as wrong, biased, and contrary to the law, seeking an immediate stay on the decision, while the matter was brought before a bench comprising Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice Atul S. Chandurkar. While the Supreme Court agreed to hear the matter urgently, it refused to stay the declaration of the Rajya Sabha election results. The court has scheduled the next hearing for the petition on June 12.

Congress Protests and Delhi Strategy

The Congress party has reacted sharply to the disqualification of its candidate. Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari termed the rejection of Meenakshi Natarajan's papers a violation of all rules and described it as a "black day" for democracy in Madhya Pradesh. He stated that the party had presented all necessary facts before the election officer, but they were ignored. In response to these developments, the Congress leadership has summoned all its MLAs from Madhya Pradesh to Delhi this Friday. The legislators are expected to meet with the party high command to discuss the future course of action. Also, the party has sought an appointment with the President of India and is planning a major protest in the national capital to highlight the issue.
