Assam / Boat capsizes in Brahmaputra river in Dhubri Assam 7 people including circle officer missing

Assam | A boat sank in the Brahmaputra river in Dhubri, Assam. Several people including senior officials of the district are reported to have drowned in this accident. Giving details of the accident, an official said that at least seven people, including an officer, went missing when a boat carrying a team to investigate erosion capsized near an under-construction bridge on Thursday.

"There is a small channel near the Dhubri-Phulbari bridge. The team was crossing the channel on a wooden boat when it collided with something and the boat capsized. There were around 25 people in the boat, many of whom were from the Dhubri circle office.

Anbamuthan said some managed to swim while others were rescued. He said that teams of State Disaster Response Force, National Disaster Response Force and Border Security Force have been deployed for search and rescue operations.

Anbamuthan said circle officer Sanju Das was also among the seven missing. "Efforts are on to rescue them. We are hopeful that they will be found safe and sound soon," Anbamuthan said.
