New Delhi : The Supreme Court in a judgment on Monday acquitted three convicts of gangrape, harassment and murder of a 19-year-old girl. This decision is being discussed since yesterday and the question is arising as to why they have been released. The family members of the victim also said that these people should have been given at least life imprisonment. In fact, during the hearing, the Supreme Court has admitted that the lawyers and police of the aggrieved party have proved to be unsuccessful in proving the charges against these people. Hence, they have been released giving the benefit of doubt. Let us tell you that these people were given death sentence by the lower court and the high court.

The three accused Ravi Kumar, Rahul and Vinod were sentenced to death by the trial in 2014. After this, the Delhi High Court also upheld this sentence. However, the apex court reversed the decision during the hearing. A bench headed by Chief Justice UU Lalit said the prosecution has failed to prove the charges against the three. The judges said that reasonable doubts have been raised by the prosecution, but the charges could not be proved. Apart from this, regarding the High Court and the trial court, the court said that his role was also like a passive umpire.

SC told where was the mistake in the trial, why was it released

The court said that the prosecution has not even been able to prove the identity of the accused. This has been a major drawback of this trial. The bench said that during the entire trial, 10 out of 49 witnesses were not even cross-examined. During the hearing of this case, the top court also gave advice to the lower courts. The Supreme Court said, "Courts should deliver judgments on the basis of merit as per law. The court should not come under any kind of external moral pressure. Apart from the Chief Justice, this bench also included Justice Ravindra Bhat and Justice Bela M. Trivedi.
