The Tamil Nadu government, led by Chief Minister Vijay, has announced a series of landmark decisions aimed at revolutionizing the healthcare sector, supporting the dairy industry, and enhancing medical education in the state. In a major move that's set to benefit millions of citizens, the Chief Minister has proposed a significant hike in the annual treatment limit under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme. The coverage, which was previously capped at 5 lakh rupees per year, is now being increased to 25 lakh rupees. This five-fold increase is designed to provide comprehensive financial protection to families facing the burden of expensive medical treatments for serious and life-threatening ailments.
Revolutionary Changes in Healthcare and Insurance
The decision to increase the health insurance limit to 25 lakh rupees marks a historic shift in the state's welfare policy. By expanding this limit, the government ensures that even the most complex surgeries and long-term treatments are accessible to the common man without the fear of financial ruin. In addition to the general increase in coverage, the government has also focused on inclusivity by including additional medical and surgical services specifically for the transgender community under this scheme. These specialized services will be made available at several key government hospitals across the state, including those in Chennai, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, and Chengalpattu. This move is seen as a major step toward providing equitable healthcare to all sections of society.
Major Boost for Milk Producers and the Dairy Sector
The Tamil Nadu government has also turned its attention to the welfare of the dairy farming community, while chief Minister Vijay announced an increase in the milk procurement price from 38 rupees to 41 rupees per liter. 16 lakh milk producers across the state. Also, the government has increased the incentive provided to milk producers from 3 rupees to 5 rupees per liter. These financial adjustments will result in an additional monthly expenditure of 30 crore rupees for the state government, amounting to an annual cost of 360 crore rupees. By increasing the procurement price and incentives, the government aims to ensure the sustainability of the dairy sector and improve the livelihoods of thousands of rural families.
Massive Investment in Medical Education and Infrastructure
To strengthen the healthcare workforce and infrastructure, the state government has approved a budget of 351 crore rupees for medical and nursing education. This investment will facilitate the creation of 6,098 additional seats across various medical and paramedical courses in government institutions. Sc Nursing, 1,925 seats in various nursing colleges and schools, 2,778 seats across 12 different paramedical courses, and 735 seats for medical courses. Also, the government has announced the establishment of 7 new government nursing colleges to meet the growing demand for trained healthcare professionals. In terms of infrastructure, a new 400-bed multi-specialty hospital will be constructed in Perambalur at a cost of 300 crore rupees, providing modern medical facilities to the local population.
Enhanced Mobility for Legislators
In another significant announcement made in the State Assembly, Chief Minister Vijay stated that the government will provide official vehicles to all Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). The primary objective of this initiative is to facilitate the movement of MLAs within their respective constituencies, allowing them to oversee development projects and serve the public more effectively. The government believes that providing these vehicles will empower legislators to fulfill their responsibilities with greater efficiency and reach even the most remote areas of their regions to address public grievances.
