Punjab elections | Congress MP Preneet Kaur attended a BJP meeting on Saturday and sought votes for her husband Captain Amarinder Singh in the Punjab Assembly elections. Amarinder Singh floated his own party Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) last year after the Congress high command removed him from the chief minister's post following a bitter feud with Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Kaur, the MP from Patiala, attended the BJP meeting, which was organized for the saffron party's ally Amarinder Singh. Amarinder Singh-led PLC, BJP and SAD (United) are contesting the state elections in alliance. The former Chief Minister is contesting from his traditional seat Patiala (Urban) as a candidate of Punjab Lok Congress.

Saturday's meeting was held at Sirhindi Gate. "I have come to appeal for Amarinder Singh as a member of your family," Kaur said, seeking votes for her husband.

This move of Preneet Kaur, who has stayed away from campaigning for the Congress, has fueled speculation about her next political move. A few days back, Congress candidate from Patiala (Urban) Vishnu Sharma had asked Kaur to either campaign for the party or resign. When reporters asked her why she was "silent" during the election, Kaur had on Thursday said, "I am with my family. Family is above all."

The Congress had in November last year issued him a show-cause notice, seeking an explanation from him for his alleged "anti-party activities". When asked about this, Kaur told reporters on Thursday that she had not received any such notice and had only read about it in newspapers and on social media. He had said that the notice should have come from the party general secretary.
