Delhi Metro Alert: 11 Stations Closed Due To CJP Protest At Jantar Mantar

Delhi Metro has closed entry and exit at 11 major stations including Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat due to a CJP protest at Jantar Mantar. Traffic diversions are also in place across Central Delhi.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has implemented significant changes to its operations today following instructions from security agencies. This decision comes in response to a planned protest by the CJP at Jantar Mantar, which has necessitated strict crowd control measures and heightened security across Central Delhi. To ensure public safety and maintain order, the DMRC has announced the closure of entry and exit points at 11 of its busiest metro stations until further notice.

List of 11 Closed Metro Stations

Commuters traveling through the heart of the national capital will face restrictions at several key locations.

  • Janpath
  • Patel Chowk
  • Central Secretariat
  • Rajiv Chowk
  • Sewa Teerth
  • Mandi House
  • Lok Kalyan Marg
  • INA
  • Chawri Bazar
  • Ramakrishna Ashram Marg
  • New Delhi

Passengers won't be allowed to exit from any gate of these stations, nor will they be permitted to enter the stations from the street level. This measure is intended to prevent large gatherings from forming in sensitive areas near the protest site and to assist security forces in managing the situation effectively.

Interchange Facilities Remain Operational

In a move to provide some relief to long-distance commuters, the DMRC has clarified that the interchange facilities at 4 major stations will continue to function normally.

  • Rajiv Chowk
  • Mandi House
  • New Delhi
  • Central Secretariat

While passengers can switch between different metro lines within these stations, they won't be allowed to leave the station premises to reach the road. This ensures that the metro network remains connected for those transiting through Central Delhi without adding to the crowds on the streets. The DMRC has urged passengers to plan their journeys keeping these restrictions in mind.

Delhi Traffic Police Advisory and Road Closures

The Delhi Traffic Police has also issued a comprehensive advisory due to the CJP protest and the heavy police presence around Jantar Mantar and Lutyens Delhi. Traffic regulations and diversions have been put in place at several intersections near Connaught Place and Jantar Mantar to manage the flow of vehicles.

Jantar Mantar Road has been entirely closed for vehicular movement, and additional barricading has been set up along Sansad Marg. Vehicles traveling from the outer circle of Connaught Place towards Patel Chowk and GPO are being redirected to alternative routes by the police personnel on duty. Heavy traffic pressure is expected on Tolstoy Marg, Ashoka Road, GPO, and Kasturba Gandhi Marg. The police have warned that traffic may be halted on these stretches if the situation demands.

On top of that, due to the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, special traffic diversions are already in effect since morning at Rajghat, Vijay Ghat, ITO, Delhi Gate, and the Ring Road. These events have already led to a significant increase in traffic volume in these areas. Commuters are strongly advised to avoid these routes and use public transport where possible, while staying updated on the latest traffic alerts.
