Delhi Riots 2020: Delhi's Karkardooma Court has acquitted Umar Khalid and Khalid Saifi, accused in the main case related to the Delhi riots. The court, while giving its verdict on Saturday (December 3), acquitted Umar Khalid and Khalid Saifi in one of the major cases related to the 2020 Delhi riots. Additional Sessions Judge Pulastya Pramachala gave this verdict.

When was the FIR registered?

Umar Khalid and Khalid Saifi have been acquitted in the case related to First Information Report (FIR) 101/2020 under Khajuri Khas Police Station, Delhi. In this FIR registered on 25 February 2020, the violence in Khajuri Khas area of Northeast Delhi was investigated.

Both the accused will remain in jail for now.

Despite being acquitted in this case, both the anti-CAA activists will remain in jail as they are yet to get bail in the FIR in the conspiracy case related to Delhi riots. He has been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) along with other charges of rioting and criminal conspiracy.

Khalid Saifi's wife expressed happiness

According to media reports, reacting to the court's decision, Khalid Saifi's wife Nargis Saifi said that after more than two and a half years, it is a big victory for us. This is good news. We have believed in the constitution and today we are very happy. The allegations of the police have proved to be baseless.

Know the whole matter

Recall that the charge sheet in this case mainly focused on the alleged involvement of former AAP councilor Tahir Hussain. However, he was repeatedly mentioned in it along with Umar Khalid and Khalid Saifi. Most importantly, the chargesheet spoke of an alleged January 8 meeting where the trio of Hussain, Khalid Saifi and Umar Khalid allegedly met to plan riots at Shaheen Bagh.
