Delhi-NCR Weather: Rain Brings Relief From Heat; IMD Alerts 14 States

Delhi-NCR witnessed a sudden weather change with rain and strong winds, providing relief from the heatwave. The IMD has predicted cloudy skies and drizzle for today, while issuing heavy rain alerts for 14 states, including UP, Bihar, and Punjab.

Residents of Delhi-NCR received much-needed relief from the scorching heat and heatwave conditions as strong winds and rain lashed several areas since last night. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cloudy skies will persist throughout the day with chances of drizzling in some areas, leading to a drop in temperature. In the national capital, heavy rain started around 5 AM today. This follows a slight relief on Tuesday when the mercury dropped below 40 degrees Celsius after six consecutive days due to cloud cover and light drizzle.

IMD Rain Alert and Regional Forecast

The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for several states across the country. These include Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Bihar, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Punjab, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. The shift in weather patterns is expected to bring down the intense heat that has been prevailing over these regions. In Delhi, the temperature had consistently stayed above normal levels before this spell of rain provided a respite.

Weather Outlook for the Coming Week

The IMD predicts that today will be characterized by significant weather fluctuations. Multiple rounds of storms and rain are expected by this evening, accompanied by high-speed winds and lightning. On April 30, the weather is expected to soften slightly, though the sky may not clear completely, and light drizzles or showers might occur in parts of Delhi. While the weather is likely to remain clear on May 1 and 2, the department has forecasted another spell of rain for May 3, 4, and 5.

Temperature Trends in the Last 24 Hours

In the past 24 hours, the heat in Delhi reached its peak, with the maximum temperature crossing the 42-degree Celsius mark, which is above the seasonal average. Even during the night, the minimum temperature remained high, offering little relief to the residents, while the absence of rain had intensified the impact of both humidity and heat. Although the summer remains in full force, the current rain and wind have brought a necessary break from the sweltering conditions.
