DUSU Election Results: NSUI Leads President Race, ABVP Ahead for Secretary

The counting of votes for the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections 2026 is currently in progress, revealing a highly competitive landscape between the major student outfits. While the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) candidates were leading in the initial rounds for the post of President, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) has managed to turn the tide after the 10th round of counting. As of the completion of the 14th round, the race for the four central panel positions has become exceptionally tight, with candidates from different factions leading in various categories.

Presidential Race: A One-Vote Margin

The battle for the President's post has emerged as a nail-biting contest. According to the data available after the 14th round, NSUI candidate Vijay Shankar Meena is leading by a razor-thin margin of just 1 vote against ABVP's Yash Dabas. Yash Dabas has secured a total of 16106 votes, which includes 14919 votes from previous rounds and 1187 votes in the latest round. In contrast, Vijay Shankar Meena has amassed 16107 votes, consisting of 15212 votes from earlier rounds and 895 votes in the 14th round. This neck-and-neck competition highlights the intense rivalry between the two organizations for the top spot in the university's student body.

Vice President and Secretary Positions

For the post of Vice President, an independent candidate, Deepanshu Shokeen, has maintained a significant lead. Deepanshu Shokeen has secured a total of 21246 votes (19964 + 1282). He's followed by ABVP's Ishu Maurya, who has 10920 votes (10127 + 793), and NSUI's Veer Chatrath, who has 4911 votes (4692 + 219). In the race for the Secretary's post, ABVP's Riya Chhawri is currently leading with a total of 13737 votes (12750 + 987). Her closest competitor is NSUI's Namrata Chaudhary, who has secured 10641 votes (9895 + 746).

Joint Secretary and Other Candidates

The Joint Secretary position is also seeing a close fight. NSUI's Gopal Chaudhary is leading with 11222 votes (10403 + 819). ABVP's Lakshya Raj Singh follows with 10589 votes (9728 + 861), while Vishesh Yadav from SCS has secured 10405 votes (9898 + 507). The election for the central panel features a total of 19 candidates, with 7 contesting for President, 5 for Vice President, 4 for Secretary, and 4 for Joint Secretary.

Voting Statistics and Security Measures

The voting for the DUSU elections 2026-27 took place on Friday across 52 polling centers. 46 percent voting was recorded. The polling was conducted in two shifts: from 8 AM to 1 PM for regular colleges and from 3 PM to 7:30 PM for evening colleges. To ensure a smooth counting process, heavy security has been deployed around the strong rooms. DCP North District Niharika Bhatt stated that approximately 1000 police personnel have been stationed, along with paramilitary forces and drone surveillance. Authorities are also monitoring social media to prevent the spread of misleading information.

High Court Restrictions and Previous Results

The Delhi High Court has imposed a ban on victory processions related to the DUSU elections. On top of that, 140 candidates have been issued show-cause notices regarding violence during the election campaign. Consequently, no candidate or supporter will be allowed to take out a victory march after the results are announced, while in the previous DUSU elections, ABVP had dominated by winning three out of the four major posts, while NSUI had secured the Vice President's position. The current trends suggest a potential shift in the power dynamics of the student union.
