Lok Sabha Election / EC takes strict stance on Central Government, says stop sending these messages immediately

Lok Sabha Election: The Election Commission has shown strictness on the Central Government. The Commission has today directed the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to immediately stop sending Vikas Bharat messages on WhatsApp. The Election Commission has immediately sought a compliance report from MeitY on this matter. The Election Commission had received many complaints in this regard. The Commission has taken action regarding this today.

Immediately sought report from MeitY

EC has directed the IT Ministry to immediately stop the delivery of developed India messages on WhatsApp. Compliance report on the matter has been immediately sought from MeitY. The Commission had received many complaints regarding the fact that despite the announcement of General Elections 2024 and implementation of MCC, such messages are still being sent to the phones of citizens. In response, MeitY had informed the Commission that although the letters were sent before the MCC was implemented, some of them may have been delivered to people with a delay due to systemic and network limitations.

Messages were being sent in the name of 'Vikas Bharat Sampark'

It is noteworthy that messages were being sent on people's WhatsApp by the government's IT Ministry under the name 'Vikas Bharat Sampark', in which a video was being broadcast with the name 'PM Modi's Guarantee'. Many complaints were made to the Election Commission regarding this, the BJP government is sending such messages to it after the announcement of the date of general elections. It was written in the message, "Hello, this message has been sent by the Vikas Bharat Sampark Kendra of the Government of India led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi."

Big action was taken before this

Earlier, the Election Commission had removed the DGP of West Bengal along with the Home Secretary of 6 states. This includes the Home Secretaries in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, apart from this the Commission also removed the Secretary of General Administrative Department in Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh.
