Election Commission / 'ECI's step is good, but when will we get the data', Rahul Gandhi again asked the EC

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday asked when the Election Commission will share the voter list of Maharashtra and Haryana. Posting on X, he welcomed the decision of the Commission and demanded the exact date. There was no response from the Commission at the moment.

Election Commission: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday raised an important issue and asked the Election Commission that by when will the voter list of Maharashtra and Haryana assembly elections be made public? On the social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter), he asked this question while sharing a screenshot of a media report and also welcomed the recent decision of the Election Commission.

Rahul Gandhi wrote, "The first good step taken by the Election Commission to hand over the voter list. Can the Election Commission announce the exact date by which this data will be handed over?"

Question raised by the screenshot

The report cited by Rahul Gandhi claims that the Election Commission has cleared the way for sharing the data of the voter list of Haryana and Maharashtra from 2009 to 2024. According to the report, the Commission had also given an assurance in this regard to the Delhi High Court at the beginning of the year. However, no official statement has come from the Commission regarding this alleged decision so far.

Election Commission's position and Congress's response

Rahul Gandhi has previously also accused of irregularities regarding the Maharashtra assembly elections. On this, sources in the Commission say that the constitutional institution will respond only when formally contacted. It was also informed that the Election Commission had invited all the six national parties for separate talks, but the Congress party canceled the meeting scheduled for May 15.

Sharp attack on Election Commission

On Saturday, Rahul Gandhi again targeted the Election Commission and said that "its credibility will be protected by truth, not by theft." Accusing 'match-fixing' in the Maharashtra elections, he claimed that the same situation could be seen in Bihar and other states in the future, where the BJP is facing defeat.
