Odisha / Eight-year-old multi-purpose indoor stadiums are planned in Odisha.

The Odisha government stepped up efforts to strengthen sports infrastructure by building 89 indoor stadiums that can be used as hospitals in the event of health emergencies and as shelters in the event of natural disasters.   


The cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Naveen Patnaik, approved the proposal at an estimated cost of 693.35 million rupees.  “The government of Odisha has focused on the continuous development of the sports sector. In recent years the state has become an important center for the organization of sporting events. According to 5T (Teamwork, Technology, Transparency, Transformation and Time Limitation), the transformation of the sector was considered, ”said Tusharkanti Behera, Minister of Sports and Youth Services.  


Behera said the action plan to strengthen the sports infrastructure had been drawn up in consultation with the representatives of the population and the athletes. Indoor stadiums would be built wherever modern sports infrastructure is not available. All of these stadiums will be named Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium over the next 18 months.   


The indoor stadium will have training facilities for badminton, table tennis and weightlifting, while fitness studios will be an integral part. They can also be used for other popular indoor games in the respective region.  The buildings have a multi-purpose use. They would be built to withstand a wind speed of 200 km. In the event of disasters such as floods and hurricanes, they can serve as shelter.  


During a health pandemic, stadiums covered in Notified Area Council areas can be converted into 50-bed hospitals, while they can easily be used as 100-bed hospitals in communities, the minister said. Centers and small meetings.   In recent years the Bhubaneswar government has built a world-class ice hockey stadium and is in the process of building the largest ice hockey stadium in the country in Rourkela. 


The government has planned artificial turf for the development of ice hockey. In addition, powerful centers for skills development with a focus on various sports and injury prevention have been set up in Bhubaneswar.   


Cabinet also approved the lowest turnkey tender from TATA Projects Limited for ₹ 331.28 million rupees for the implementation of the Shree Mandir Parikrama project in Puri under the Basic Achievement and Heritage Development Program (ABADHA).
