Election Commission Of Rajasthan / Former IAS Dr. Rajeshwar Singh will be the State Election Commissioner

Former IAS officer Dr. Rajeshwar Singh has been appointed State Election Commissioner. He retired as Revenue Board Chairman in July 2024. Born in Varanasi, Singh, a 1989 batch IAS officer, has extensive administrative experience. He will now be responsible for urban body and panchayat elections.

Election Commission of Rajasthan: Governor Haribhau Bagde on Tuesday issued orders appointing former IAS officer Dr. Rajeshwar Singh as the State Election Commissioner. This appointment follows the completion of Madhukar Gupta's term as State Election Commissioner. Dr. Rajeshwar Singh will now have the important responsibility of conducting elections for urban local bodies and Panchayati Raj institutions.

Madhukar Gupta's Tenure and Election Process

During his tenure, Madhukar Gupta advocated for early local body and Panchayat elections, citing High Court orders. A program to update voter lists was also initiated. However, the High Court later waived the requirement to hold early elections, providing some relief to the process.

Rajeshwar Singh's Administrative Experience

Born on July 12, 1964, in Varanasi, Dr. Rajeshwar Singh is a 1989 batch IAS officer. He holds a Master's degree (MA) in History. He held various important administrative positions before retiring as Chairman of the Revenue Board in July 2024.

Dr. Singh has extensive experience in Panchayati Raj and Rural Development. He has served as Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) in the Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Department and as Director General (DG) at the Indira Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sansthan. He also held important positions as Divisional Commissioner and Collector of Jaipur.

Key Administrative Roles

Jaipur Collector: Served as the Collector of Jaipur from June 23, 2005, to March 23, 2007.

Jaipur Development Authority (JDA): Served as Secretary of the JDA from 1998 to 1999.

Divisional Commissioner: Served as Divisional Commissioner in Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Udaipur.

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj: Served as ACS in the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj department during Sachin Pilot's tenure as Deputy Chief Minister from December 3, 2019, to August 20, 2020.

Other important positions: He held positions such as ACS, Roadways Chairman, Transport Commissioner, and Principal Secretary in the Tribal Area Development Department.

Tenure as Chairman of the Revenue Board

Dr. Rajeshwar Singh served as Chairman of the Revenue Board, Ajmer, for three years from July 2021 to July 2024, from which he retired. Given his extensive and diverse administrative experience, he is expected to make significant contributions in his new role.
