Gujarat News: Big news related to local elections has come to light in Gujarat. Gujarat government has announced 27% OBC reservation in local elections. There is also news that the government has retained the SC/ST quota. Before the Lok Sabha elections, the announcement of reservation in the elections of Gram Panchayats and local bodies of the state is a big decision of the Gujarat government before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Earlier the OBC reservation by the government was 10 per cent, which has now been increased to 27 per cent. However, 10 percent reservation in SC-ST seats has been retained as before.

What is the whole matter?

The Jhaveri Commission report was placed in the cabinet meeting held in Gandhinagar today, in which it was demanded that 27 per cent reservation be given to OBCs. In fact, it was said in this report that in 9 districts and 61 talukas of Gujarat, the tribal population is more than 50 percent. In such a situation, there should be allocation of seats according to the population.

After this, cabinet minister Hrishikesh Patel said that the state government studied this report and then increased the OBC quota to 27 per cent. After this decision, a round of discussions has started in the political circles.
