Ahmedabad Plane Crash: The worst plane crash in the country's history took place in Ahmedabad on Sunday afternoon, when Air India flight AI-171 crashed just minutes after taking off for London. The accident took place in the city's Horse Camp area, which is located near the Civil Hospital. The plane took off from Ahmedabad Airport at 1:48 pm and in just 9 minutes it turned into a fireball at an altitude of 625 feet.

242 passengers on the plane, British citizen the only survivor

Out of the 242 passengers on board the plane in this horrific accident, only one person, British citizen Ramesh Vishwas Kumar, has been found alive. According to Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik, the police found an injured but alive passenger on seat 11A, who was immediately admitted to the hospital. Everyone is calling this miraculous rescue "God's grace".

Former Chief Minister of Gujarat also on board in the accident

It is said that former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also on board the plane. Along with him, two pilots and 10 crew members were also present in the plane. After the crash, the fire from the plane also engulfed the nearby residential buildings, causing chaos in the area.

Air Force, Army and NDRF engaged in rescue work

Immediately after the accident, teams of Indian Air Force, Army and NDRF reached the spot and started the rescue operation. The work of removing dead bodies and injured from the debris is going on on a war footing. The injured have been admitted to the Civil Hospital and the condition remains very critical.

Air India started relief services for the relatives

Air India has arranged special relief flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Ahmedabad, so that the relatives of the victims can reach the spot. For this, Air India has issued helpline number 1800 5691 444 and +91 8062779200 for international passengers.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the accident and said that he expresses condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragedy. At the same time, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Rishi Sunak tweeted, "Akshata and I are saddened by the news of the Air India tragedy. Our condolences are with the families of both India and Britain."

Former Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said, "This is extremely unfortunate. There should be an investigation into how and why this accident happened. This flight first came from Delhi to Ahmedabad, from there it took off for London."
