On Thursday afternoon, Gujarat's capital Ahmedabad witnessed a horrific tragedy when Air India's Dreamliner aircraft AI-171 crashed just 9 minutes after takeoff. The plane, which was headed for London's Gatwick Airport, took off from Ahmedabad Airport at 1:48 pm, but at 1:57 pm, it crashed near Meghaninagar area at an altitude of just 625 feet.

The plane turned into a fireball

The accident took place in Meghaninagar, located near Ahmedabad Horse Camp, which is an area adjacent to Civil Hospital and BJ Medical College. According to eyewitnesses, the plane fell directly on the roof of the college hostel, where many students were present in the canteen as it was afternoon. With the crash, the plane turned into a fireball, which also engulfed the surrounding buildings. 20 medical students are feared dead in the accident, although administrative confirmation is yet to be made.

Army, Air Force and NDRF engaged in rescue work

Immediately after the accident, teams of Army, Air Force and NDRF reached the spot and relief and rescue work was started. A large number of injured people have been admitted to the Civil Hospital, where an emergency alert has been issued. The accident site has been completely sealed.

After gaining control over the situation, the Civil Aviation Ministry has informed that Ahmedabad Airport has been reopened for flight operations from 4:05 pm. All safety protocols are being strictly followed.

A joint team of DGCA and Air India is present at the spot to investigate this accident. Efforts are being made to find the black box of the aircraft, so that the real cause of the accident can be known.
