Air India's London-bound flight crashed minutes after take-off. So far 297 people have been confirmed dead in the accident. This accident is considered to be the worst accident in the country's aviation history.

International impact

There were a total of 242 people on board this flight, including 181 Indians, 53 British, 7 Portuguese and 1 Canadian citizen. Unfortunately, 241 of them lost their lives, while miraculously a British citizen survived. The accident was so horrific that the flight collided with a doctors' hostel built in a residential area, killing 56 more people on the ground.

Mukesh and Nita Ambani expressed grief

Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita Ambani have expressed deep condolences on this tragedy. The company's official statement said, "We are deeply saddened by this heartbreaking accident. Reliance is ready to provide all possible support in relief and rescue operations." The Ambani couple expressed condolences to all the affected and said that this loss is irreparable.

Tata Group made a big announcement

Air India's parent company Tata Group has announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore each to the families of the deceased. Also, it has promised to bear the entire cost of treatment of injured passengers and those injured on the ground. The company said that this is the time to fulfill human responsibility in times of crisis.

What happened at the time of the accident

According to eyewitnesses, Air India flight AI-218 had just taken off from Ahmedabad airport when it lost control due to some technical fault. The plane directly collided with the nearby medical college hostel, due to which many students and local people living in the hostel along with the plane also became victims of the accident. A joint team of DGCA and international experts has been formed to investigate the accident.
