The government on Saturday notified the rules of the Automated Scrappage Policy.

According to this, if you are not satisfied with the results of the fitness test, then you can appeal by paying the necessary fees. The Appellate Authority may order a partial or complete inspection of the vehicle within 15 days of the filing of the appeal. If the vehicle is found to be fit in this fitness test, the Appellate Authority may issue a fitness certificate for such vehicles. The decision of the Appellate Authority shall be final and binding.

When is the fitness test

According to the Rules for RECOGNITION, REGULATION AND CONTROL OF AUTOMATED TESTING STATIONS, Automated Testing Stations will be set up for fitness testing of old vehicles. In these, the fitness test of vehicles will be done through mechanical equipment. Commercial vehicles have to undergo a fitness test every 2 years for 8 years. Vehicles older than 8 years undergo a fitness test every year. The registration of personal vehicles is renewed after 15 years and at the same time they undergo a fitness test. After this, their fitness test is done after defeat in 5 years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched the Automotive Scrappage Policy in August. Then he had said that on scrapping the old car, a certificate would be given to the vehicle owner. With this, the vehicle owner will not have to pay the registration fee while buying a new car. The vehicle owner will also get exemption in road tax. Save money on used car maintenance cost, repair cost and fuel efficiency. Road accidents due to old vehicles and old technology will be reduced

How many old vehicles are there in the country

According to the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) Nitin Gadkari, the scrappage policy is likely to cut the cost of raw materials by about 40 percent. About Rs 22,000 crore worth of scrap steel is imported into the country. This policy will reduce its dependency. It will help India to become an industrial hub of automotive manufacturing. The government will set up testing centers in all the districts using the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
