IPL Auction : BCCI Announces Goa As Venue For December Event

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced a major update regarding the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, bringing an end to the anticipation surrounding the event's location. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia has confirmed that the IPL auction for the next season will be held in Goa this December. This move signifies a return of the high-profile event to Indian soil after a hiatus of several years where the auction was conducted internationally.

Return to Domestic Soil

In his statement, Devjit Saikia highlighted that the IPL auction is returning to India after being held abroad for the last 3 years. He noted that the previous 3 IPL auctions were organized in international locations, specifically Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi. The decision to host the event in Goa this December reflects the BCCI's commitment to bringing the festive atmosphere of the auction back to the home country. Saikia emphasized that after successfully conducting the process in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi over the past three editions, the board is now prepared to host the IPL auction in Goa during the month of December.

Match Relocation: India A vs Australia A

Beyond the IPL updates, Saikia also provided crucial information regarding the upcoming cricket schedule for the women's teams. He announced that the matches between the India A women's team and the Australia A women's team have been relocated. Originally scheduled to take place in Dharamshala, the upcoming T20 matches will now be played in Mohali. The primary reason for this shift is the unfavorable weather conditions currently prevailing in Dharamshala. Saikia explained that persistent and heavy rainfall in Dharamshala has made the environment unsuitable for cricket. To ensure that the cricket activities proceed without any hindrance or interruptions caused by the weather, the board decided to move the matches to Mohali, where conditions are expected to be more conducive for the sport.

Strengthening Cricket Ties with Japan

The BCCI Secretary also touched upon the historical significance of the recent T20 match played between India and Japan. He described this encounter as a pivotal moment for the cricketing relations between the two nations, while congratulating the Indian team, Saikia stated that this match wasn't just about a victory against Japan but represented the beginning of a new era of friendship in the field of cricket. He credited the initiative to ICC Chairman Jay Shah, whose vision paved the way for the cricket boards of India and Japan to collaborate on this event, while saikia recalled a meeting in Edinburgh where Jay Shah encouraged him to sit down with his Japanese counterpart to work towards organizing a match in Japan. This initiative has now come to fruition, and Saikia noted the immense enthusiasm among the spectators in Japan during the match. He expressed hope that such endeavors would help in popularizing cricket in new regions and strengthening the bond of friendship and development between India and Japan through the sport.
