Rajya Sabha Elections: Congress has suffered a major setback in the elections being held on a Rajya Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh. It is being told that 9 MLAs including Congress and independents supporting it have voted in favor of BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan, due to which the game of Congress's Abhishek Manu Singhvi has been spoiled. Among those who cross-voted, 6 MLAs are from Congress and 3 are independent. There are a total of 68 MLAs in Himachal Pradesh Assembly, 40 from Congress and 25 from BJP. Whereas Congress also has the support of 3 independent MLAs. But due to cross voting in the Rajya Sabha elections, the equation of the Assembly also seems to be wavering. BJP leader and former Chief Minister of Himachal Jairam Thakur has clearly said that the Sukhu government has come into minority.

There is time till 3 pm for voting in Rajya Sabha elections. Due to cross voting of 9 MLAs, the path of Congress candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi to reach the Upper House has become difficult. Senior Congress leader Pratibha Singh has said that the resentment of the MLAs is natural. Due to this, it is clear that despite Congress having the number of MLAs, the game got spoiled.

Competition between Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Harsh Mahajan

There is a direct contest in the Rajya Sabha elections between Abhishek Manu Singhvi from Congress and Harsh Mahajan from BJP. In the assembly of 68 MLAs, Congress has 40 votes, while BJP has 25 votes and Congress is also claiming the support of three independent MLAs. Despite BJP not having the right numbers to win the Rajya Sabha, it fielded Harsh Mahajan and made the Rajya Sabha election battle interesting through cross voting.

Actually, BJP is expecting support from the faction of MLAs who are angry with Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu. Due to this, BJP fielded Harsh Mahajan despite having low numbers. Due to the way there are reports of cross-voting of Congress MLAs during voting, if 9 MLAs vote in favor of BJP, then Singhvi's hopes of winning may be dashed. If Congress loses the Rajya Sabha elections even after being in power in the state, then the political crisis may deepen for the Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu government.
